From March 21 to March 25, 2016, the Abundant Leadership Institute (ALI) will be offering an important module called “Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD)” in partnership with renowned community builder Cormac Russell and Wellspring’s own Rachel Mahuku. The ABCD approach suggests that communities cannot be built by focusing on their needs, problems, and deficiencies. Rather, community building starts with the process of locating the assets, skills and capacities of residents, citizens associations and local institutions. At the end of the course, the participants should be able to engage the people they lead in building their communities and schools by tapping into the following key points:
  • How to release individual capacities
  • How to release the power of local associations and organisations
  • How to capture local institutions for community building
  • How to rebuild the community economy
  • How to mobilize an entire community
